The second week of the Stokesley Pool League season delivered some huge talking points — none bigger than Kirkby A’s shock 5-4 victory over reigning champions Kirkby B. Ayton remain unbeaten at the top after another convincing away win, while newcomers Nunthorpe Rec claimed their first triumph of the campaign.
Kirkby A 5-4 Kirkby B

In one of the biggest early upsets of the season, Kirkby A battled back from losing all three doubles to stun champions Kirkby B with a dominant singles showing. Veteran Tony Smith rolled back the years with a vital singles win, while Rachel Muscat, Billy McElvany and Mick Gaines-Burrell all produced strong performances. Kirkby B looked in control after the doubles but couldn’t halt the momentum shift as Kirkby A stormed through the singles 5-1.
Nunthorpe Rec 7-2 Sports A

Doubles: 2 – 1 | Singles: 5 – 1
A statement win from the league’s newest side as Nunthorpe Rec powered past Sports A 7-2. Tony Czifra and James Hartley were outstanding in the singles, while Gary Fields and Mark Stephenson helped secure valuable doubles points. Sports A’s only resistance came from Lewis Martin, who continued his steady start to the season.

Ayton continued their perfect start to the season with another commanding win, this time away at Sports B. Phil Walker and Steve Taylor once again led by example, each taking singles and doubles victories. Simon Parker impressed with a composed performance, while Stuart Watson contributed both singles and doubles points.
