Week 7 of the Stokesley Pool League brought another round of close contests, a change at the top of the table, and a big statement win for Kirkby A. Only two points now separate the top four sides, keeping the season wide open heading into the winter stretch.

Sports A 5 – 4 Nunthorpe Rec

At Stokesley Sports Club, Sports A edged out Nunthorpe Rec 5–4 in one of the tightest matches of the season so far. Wins from Jordan Phillips and James Rowney gave Sports A the perfect start, while Tony Czifra and Peter Fields pulled Nunthorpe back into contention. The doubles were shared, but it was Leon Jones who sealed the singles frame that got the Sports A the win.

Ayton 4 – 5 Sports B

Sports B continued their strong run with another tight 5–4 win, this time away at Ayton. The visitors showed real depth across the team with key wins from Jimmy Grange, Shane Pratt, and William McIlvanney.  Despite brave efforts from Simon Parker, Peter Stones and Philip McGreevy for Ayton, the momentum stayed with Sports B after a confident start in the doubles.

Kirkby B 2 – 7 Kirkby A

The biggest talking point of the week came at The Black Swan, where Kirkby A produced their best performance of the season to beat Kirkby B 7–2. New player Terry Braithwaite won in doubles and singles, as did Mick Gains-Burrel with a great singles and doubles contribution. Andrew Hutchinson and Billy McElvany also delivered composed finishes to secure a memorable derby win. Lee Murphy was a bright spot for Kirkby B, claiming a superb 7-ball finish in his singles, and Gordon Hay battled to win the only other game for Kirby B.

League Standings – Week 7

Nunthorpe Rec remain top of the table with 34 points, but Sports B and Kirkby B are right behind on 32. Ayton and Sports A are level just two points back, while Kirkby A continue to climb after back-to-back wins. With the top five separated by only four points, it’s shaping up to be one of the tightest season’s in years.

Player of the Week – Terry Braithwaite (Kirkby A)

Mick Gains-Burrel earns this week’s Player of the Week award after a standout performance. Calm under pressure and clinical when it counted, Mick led Kirkby A to a stunning 7–2 derby victory with wins in both singles and doubles. His composure and experience made the difference in one of the seasons upsets so far.
