Stokesley Pool Week 10: Round-Up
Proudly sponsored by My Insurance Broker
Week 10 of the Stokesley Pool League brought another set of competitive fixtures and further movement at the top of the Winter 2025/26 table. Nunthorpe Rec strengthened their lead, Kirkby B stayed firmly in touch, and Ayton continued to apply pressure with a convincing away win.
Kirkby B 6–3 Sports B
DBL: 0–3, SNG: 4–2
Sports B were lively and vocal at the start of the night at the Black Swan Inn, but that early energy soon faded as Kirkby B took control of proceedings. The home side dominated the opening phase, winning four of the first five frames across the singles and doubles to establish a clear foothold in the match.
Sports B responded well and picked up two singles frames in the middle of the contest, showing resilience and keeping the tie competitive. However, Kirkby B finished strongly, taking the final two singles frames to close out the night in front of a rousing home crowd.
It was a competitive and hard-fought encounter, but Kirkby B’s early dominance and composed finish proved the difference in a deserved 6–3 victory.
Nunthorpe Rec 5–4 Kirkby A
DBL: 2–1, SNG: 3–3
At Nunthorpe and Marton Recreation Club, the league leaders were once again pushed all the way before edging a narrow 5–4 win over a determined Kirkby A side in the deciding singles.
The doubles were evenly contested, with Nunthorpe Rec doing just enough to take a slender advantage into the singles. The singles frames were split evenly, keeping the outcome in doubt right through to the closing stages.
James Hartley continued his impressive unbeaten run, delivering another calm and controlled performance when it mattered most. Support from Gary Fields, Peter Fields and Aidy Stephenson collected the points needed to extend their lead at the top.
Kirkby A showed plenty of fight throughout, with wins from Dave Chow and Andrew Hutchinson, but Nunthorpe’s composure in key frames proved decisive.
Sports A 3–6 Ayton
DBL: 1–2, SNG: 2–4
Ayton produced a strong and well-organised away performance at Stokesley Sports Club to secure a 6–3 win over Sports A and keep themselves firmly in the title picture.
The visitors took control early by winning two of the three doubles frames, then built on that platform in the singles. Alan Jackson, Steve Taylor, Peter Stones and Stuart Watson were all in good form winning singles.
Sports A battled hard and picked up singles wins through Lewis Martin and Jordan Phillips, but Ayton’s consistency across the night saw them pull clear and take the points.
League Table Update
After ten rounds, Nunthorpe Rec sit top on 49 points, with Kirkby B and Ayton close behind on 48. Sports B remain in contention in fourth, while Sports A and Kirkby A are still very much in the mix as the season heads towards its midpoint.
With margins this tight across the table, every frame is starting to carry extra weight.
Player of the Week
Ian McGreevy (Kirkby B)
A strong all-round performance in Kirkby B’s home win, with McGreevy setting the tone early in the singles and contributing to a dominant spell that put the match firmly in Kirkby B’s control. Calm under pressure and clinical when chances appeared.
