Stokesley Pool League Week 1 Summary

The new Stokesley Pool League season began with three lively matches, each finishing 6-3.
Defending champions Kirkby B opened with victory, Ayton impressed at home, and Sports A claimed early bragging rights in the Stokesley derby.

Great Ayton WMC 6 – 3 Kirkby A

Doubles: 2 – 1 | Singles: 4 – 2

Ayton made a confident start, defeating visitors Kirkby A 6-3.
Phil Walker and Steve Taylor took an opening doubles win before both added singles points, with Philip McGreevy contributing two strong frames of his own. Kirkby A replied through Dave Chow and Mick Gaines-Burrell, but Ayton’s balanced performance proved decisive.

Kirkby B 6 – 3 Nunthorpe Rec

Doubles: 2 – 1 | Singles: 4 – 2

Reigning champions Kirkby B began their title defence with a solid win against newcomers Nunthorpe Rec.
Singles victories from John Corner, Jack Butler and Lee Murphy established control early on.
Although Corner’s doubles pairing with Jack Butler slipped to defeat against Peter and Gary Fields, the team recovered thanks to Brian Dea and Gordon Hay, plus a composed closing frame from Lee Murphy and his partner.
Nunthorpe Rec, playing their first ever league match, showed real promise by taking three quality frames and pushing the champions in several tight finishes.

Sports A 6 – 3 Sports B

Doubles: 2 – 1 | Singles: 4 – 2

An entertaining local derby saw Sports A edge Sports B 6-3.
James Rowney and Matthew Brown both delivered key singles wins and combined for a doubles success. Jordan Phillips and Graham Bland also contributed to a balanced team performance.
Sports B started brightly through Jacob Foster and Jimmy Grange, but could not convert late-frame chances as Sports A finished strongly.

Last Season Recap (2024/25)

Kirkby B were crowned Winter 2024/25 Champions, finishing top on 83 points after 15 matches.
They edged out Sports B (72 points) and Kirkby A (66 points), with Ayton and Wheatsheaf close behind.
The Black Swan-based squad’s consistency with nine wins from 15 secured their title and set the tone for this season’s defence.
