Week 11 tightened the title race again, with Kirkby B and Ayton now level at the top on 54 points. Nunthorpe Rec are still right on their heels on 52, while Sports B continued their momentum by edging the all-Sports derby.

Ayton 6–3 Kirkby A

DBL: 1–2, SNG: 5–1

Ayton did the damage in the singles at Great Ayton WMC, taking five of the six frames to seal a strong 6–3 win. It should have been a clean sweep in the singles, but Luke McGreevy missed a simple middle black, allowing Tony Smith in to claim a valuable point for Kirkby A.

Singles wins for Ayton came through Steve Taylor, Eddie McGreevy, Peter Stones and Simon Parker, with Stones also picking up an extra point on the night. Kirkby A’s best return came in the doubles, where they took two of the three frames to keep things competitive early on.

Kirkby B 6–3 Nunthorpe Rec

DBL: 2–1, SNG: 4–2

A big result at the Black Swan Inn as Kirkby B handed Nunthorpe Rec a 6–3 defeat and pulled level at the top. The doubles were key early on, with Kirkby B taking two of the three frames to give themselves a platform.

There were some quality moments in the match, including a 7-ball clearance from John Corner in the singles. Nunthorpe also had a highlight of their own in the doubles, as James Hartley and Jason Rowden took a frame after an explosive break from Corner saw the cue ball drop along with three other balls, swinging the table in Nunthorpe’s favour.

In the singles, Lee Murphy was the standout, taking two wins on the night, while John Corner and Jack Butler also delivered important points. Nunthorpe’s replies came via James Hartley and Jason Rowden, but Kirkby B held firm to close it out.

Sports A 4–5 Sports B

DBL: 1–2, SNG: 3–3

The derby at Stokesley Sports Club was as tight as it gets. The singles were shared 3–3, but Sports B edged the doubles 2–1 to nick the match 5–4.

Sports A took singles points through Craig Rodgers and Jordan Phillips, with another crucial win coming from their side to keep it level late on. Sports B answered back through Jimmy Grange and Stephen Belton, and that extra doubles point proved to be the difference on the night.

Festive Players of the Week

Lee Murphy (Kirkby B) and Peter Stones (Ayton)

It’s a shared festive honour this week. Lee Murphy delivered a composed performance in a huge top-of-the-table clash, picking up two singles wins and contributing in the doubles as Kirkby B moved joint top.

Peter Stones was equally impressive for Ayton, recording two singles wins and a doubles victory in their 6–3 win over Kirkby A. A calm, consistent display that helped keep Ayton level at the summit.
