Stokesley Pool Week 14: Round-Up

Proudly sponsored by My Insurance Broker

With just four games remaining in the Winter 2025/26 season, the title race is reaching its decisive stage — and after another dominant week, Kirkby B have taken a firm grip at the top. A huge away win over closest rivals Nunthorpe Rec extended their lead, while Sports A and Kirkby A also picked up important victories elsewhere.

Nunthorpe Rec 2–7 Kirkby B

DBL: 0–3, SNG: 2–4

This was billed as the match that could decide the title — and Kirkby B delivered in emphatic fashion. Winning all three doubles frames gave them early control, and they never let Nunthorpe settle.

Singles wins from John Corner, Jack Butler, Brian Dea and Ian McGreevy sealed the result, with McGreevy producing the standout moment of the night — a brilliant clearance under pressure that demonstrated both composure and confidence at a crucial stage of the season.

Nunthorpe responded through Player of the Season leader James Hartley, who defeated second-placed Lee Murphy, along with one other singles point, but the damage had already been done. The result leaves Kirkby B firmly in control as the season enters its final weeks.

Kirkby A 6–3 Ayton

DBL: 2–1, SNG: 4–2

Kirkby A produced one of their strongest performances of the season to defeat Ayton at the Black Swan Inn. Wins from Mick Gaines-Burrell, Shaun Sigsworth, Rachel Muscat and Dave Chow in the singles gave them the edge, while doubles victories from Dave Chow & Andrew Hutchinson and Rachel Muscat & Mick Gaines-Burrell ensured the points stayed with the home side.

Ayton battled well, with Steve Taylor and Phil Walker picking up singles points, and one doubles success keeping things competitive, but Kirkby A maintained control throughout.

Sports B 4–5 Sports A

DBL: 1–2, SNG: 3–3

The derby at Stokesley Sports Club went right down to the wire, with Sports A edging a narrow 5–4 win. The singles were shared evenly, with Arfan Asif, William McElvanney and Stephen Belton scoring for Sports B, while Jordan Phillips, Graham Bland and Matthew Brown replied for Sports A.

The difference came in the doubles, where Sports A claimed two of the three frames to secure the overall victory and climb further up the table. Graham Bland secured the final singles to edge Sports A over the winning line.

Player of the Week: Ian McGreevy (Kirkby B)

Some luck in the doubles but a superb singles win highlighted by a clinical pressure clearance, helping Kirkby B secure a defining victory over their closest challengers and strengthen their grip on the title race.

Table Talk

Kirkby B now lead on 86 points, ahead of Nunthorpe Rec on 77. With just four fixtures remaining, the question is clear — is the title already decided, or is there still time for one final twist?

Sports B sit on 71, followed by Sports A on 67, Ayton on 65, and Kirkby A on 63. Every frame still matters as the season approaches its conclusion.

Announcement: Week 16 – Kirkby B take control
