Stokesley Pool League Week 18 Results - Title Race Goes Into Final Two
Proudly sponsored by My Insurance Broker With just two matches left in the Winter 2025/26 season, the title race took another twist this week. As always, the night began with the three doubles before moving into the singles, and those early frames again proved crucial in shaping the results. Kirkby B stayed top despite defeat, Nunthorpe Rec kept the pressure on, and both Sports A and Kirkby A picked up important wins.
Kirkby B 4–5 Sports A
DBL: 2–1, SNG: 2–4 At the Black Swan Inn, Sports A produced one of their best results of the season, edging league leaders Kirkby B 5–4. Kirkby B made the better start in the doubles, taking two of the three frames, but Sports A turned the match in the singles by winning four of the six. Jordan Phillips, Lewis Martin, Matthew Brown and Graham Bland all delivered key singles wins for the visitors, overturning the early doubles deficit in style. Kirkby B responded through Brian Dea and Lee Murphy in the singles, but Sports A held their nerve to complete a superb away victory.
Nunthorpe Rec 6–3 Ayton
DBL: 2–1, SNG: 4–2 Nunthorpe Rec kept themselves firmly in the title race with a composed 6–3 home win over Ayton. The doubles gave them the platform, with two early wins, including a 7-ball clearance by Mike Bringlow and Gary Fields, helping them carry momentum into the singles. From there, Nunthorpe took four of the six singles frames through Jason Rowden, new boy Ali Busena, James Hartley and Gary Fields. Ayton battled well and stayed competitive throughout, but Nunthorpe were stronger in the key moments and saw the match out well.
Sports B 4–5 Kirkby A
DBL: 2–1, SNG: 2–4 Kirkby A edged another close one at Stokesley Sports Club, taking a narrow 5–4 victory over Sports B. The home side started well in the doubles, winning two of the first three frames, but Kirkby A responded with a strong singles session to turn the match around. League veterans Dave Chow, Tony Smith, Andrew Hutchinson and Mick Gaines-Burrell all contributed important wins as Kirkby A finished strongly. Sports B had moments of control early in the night, but Kirkby A’s singles consistency proved the difference in the end.
Table Talk
With only two matches left, the table is tightening right at the top. Kirkby B remain leaders on 97 points, but Nunthorpe Rec are still in the hunt on 90. Sports B sit on 80, while Sports A moves up to 74. Ayton are on 72 and Kirkby A is on 70. There is still plenty to play for, but the leaders know there is little room for error now.
Player of the Week
Matthew Brown (Sports A) – a crucial singles win with a swerve shot and aclinical black, helping Sports A overturn a doubles deficit and beat the league leaders. A performance full of composure at just the right time.
Announcement: Week 17 – Kirkby B edge closer to title
