Week 3 brought another round of competitive matches and some big storylines. Tony Smith rolled back the years again with wins in both singles and doubles, confirming that his cataract operation has been highly effective. 

At the same time, John Corner and Gordon Hay produced the first 7-ball break and clearance of the 2025/26 season during their doubles frame for Kirkby B. 

Ayton’s unbeaten run came to an end as Nunthorpe Rec claimed a narrow victory. The league table is already tightening up at the top.

Ayton 4 – 5 Nunthorpe Rec

Venue: Great Ayton WMC | Date: 14 October 2025
Doubles: 1 – 2 | Singles: 3 – 3

Ayton suffered its first loss of the season in a close battle decided by the doubles. Despite singles wins from Peter Stones, Stuart Watson and Alan Jackson, Nunthorpe Rec held their nerve. Gary Fields, Tony Czifra and James Hartley all picked up vital frames, with Hartley maintaining his perfect personal record. The visiting side edged the doubles 2-1 to seal an important away win.

Kirkby A 3 – 6 Sports B

Doubles: 1 – 2 | Singles: 2 – 4

Tony Smith was the standout once again for Kirkby A, winning both his singles and doubles matches, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a strong Sports B team from taking their first win of the campaign.

After last week’s shock loss, Kirkby B bounced back in style. John Corner, Gordon Hay and Lee Murphy led from the front, combining accuracy and composure to secure six valuable frames. The highlight came when John Corner and Gordon Hay achieved the first 7-ball break and clearance of the season in doubles, earning an early spot in the highlights reel. Sports A fought hard but couldn’t halt the visitors’ momentum.
