Sports B pulled off a huge upset, thrashing league leaders Kirkby B 8–1. Sports A edged Ayton 5–4, while William McIlvanney shone as Player of the Week.
Ayton 4 – 5 Sports A
At Great Ayton WMC, Sports A edged a close 5–4 victory after a fiercely fought night of pool. Ayton started strongly with wins from Stuart Watson, Peter Stones and Steve Taylor, but Sports A hit back as Lewis Martin, Matthew Brown and Graham Bland swung the momentum their way. After splitting the doubles, it all came down to the final singles, where Graham Bland held his nerve to secure the deciding frame for Sports A.
Sports B 8 – 1 Kirkby B
In one of the biggest shocks of the season so far, bottom-of-the-league Sports B stunned table-toppers Kirkby B with an emphatic 8–1 home victory at Stokesley Sports Club. Led by William McIlvanney, who starred in both singles and doubles, Sports B were near flawless across the table, showing teamwork, composure and clinical finishing that left Kirkby B struggling to respond. The result reshapes the early-season table and proves that no match in this year’s season is predictable.
Fixture Update – Kirkby B vs Nunthorpe Rec
The week’s other fixture, between Kirkby B and Nunthorpe Rec was unable to go ahead due to unforeseen circumstances at The Black Swan, Kirkby in Cleveland. Under league rules, teams are required to give at least 24 hours’ notice if a fixture cannot be played. Otherwise, the opposing side may claim the match (6–0). We are currently awaiting Nunthorpe Rec’s decision before finalising the outcome.

A standout performance from William McIlvanney, who led by example in both singles and doubles to guide Sports B to their first win of the season, and what a win it was, taking down the league leaders in style.
