Proudly sponsored by My Insurance Broker

Week 9 brought another batch of competitive fixtures, big individual moments, and a major shift at the top of the table. Nunthorpe Rec now lead on 44 points, with Kirkby B and Ayton close behind after an unpredictable night of results.

Ayton 6–3 Kirkby B

DBL: 3–0, SNG: 3–3

Ayton produced their best performance of the season so far, beating title-challengers Kirkby B with a confident 6–3 home win.

The doubles set the tone early, with Ayton sweeping all three frames through:

  • Philip McGreevy & Steve Taylor
  • Simon Parker & Stuart Watson
  • Peter Stones & Steve Taylor

That early 3–0 cushion gave Ayton momentum heading into the singles, where the two sides traded frames evenly.

Ayton’s singles wins came from Peter Stones, Simon Parker and Stuart Watson, while Lee Murphy, John Corner and Ian McGreevy replied for the visitors.

A controlled performance from Ayton, and a result that tightens the race at the top.

Kirkby A 4–5 Sports A

DBL: 2–1, SNG: 2–4

Sports A edged a tense 5–4 away win at the Black Swan, coming from behind after Kirkby A started strongly in the doubles.

Kirkby A opened well with wins from:

  • Tony Smith & Billy McElvany
  • Dave Chow & Andrew Hutchinson

But Sports A hit back immediately, taking four of the six singles frames thanks to:

  • Leon Jones
  • Jordan Phillips
  • Graham Bird
  • Matthew Brown

Kirkby A battled all night, with singles wins from Dave Chow and Andrew Hutchinson, but Sports A showed great composure in the key moments to secure the final frame.

A steady, disciplined performance from Sports A, who keep themselves in the chasing pack.

Sports B 4–5 Nunthorpe Rec

DBL: 3–0, SNG: 1–5

Sports B started brilliantly at Stokesley Sports Club, sweeping all three doubles frames to take a commanding 3–0 lead:

  • Stephen Belton & William McIlvanney
  • Shane Pratt & Arfan Asif
  • Jacob Foster & Stephen Belton

But Nunthorpe Rec delivered a huge response in the singles, winning five of the six frames to turn the match around.

Singles victories from Jason Rowden, Peter Fields, James Hartley, Gary Fields and Aidy Stephenson sealed the comeback, with James Hartley extending his impressive unbeaten run.

Sports B’s only singles point came from Shane Pratt, who continues to be one of their most reliable players.

A brilliant turnaround from Nunthorpe Rec, who now sit top of the league on 44 points.

Player of the Week – James Hartley (Nunthorpe Rec)

Unbeaten again and instrumental in Nunthorpe’s comeback win. Hartley continues to show why he is one of the standout performers this season.

Announcement: Week 9, a night of unpredictable results!
